I remember an interveiw in AdAge magazine about the fast growth of Maxim magazine taken 10 years ago. The managing director explained that a magazine life is 5 seconds - the buyer has only 5 seconds looking at the cover and the publisher has this short time to convince him ti pick the title.
It was important that Maxim's father company is in Great Britan where newsstand/subscription ratio is opposite of those we have in USA.
